Pimlico Rd to Teven: More CMC Rigid Inclusions for the Pacific Highway Upgrade

We can’t deny it: we love working for the Pacific Highway Upgrade and we are very proud to be part of this major road infrastructure project for NSW. Connecting Sydney and Brisbane, the project is targeted to be completed by 2020.

Menard team has already completed not less than six different jobs as part of the CMC Rigid Inclusions for the Pacific Highway Upgrade and has recently started a seventh one for Roads and Maritime Services (RMS), consisting in ground reinforcement works in Ballina (NSW) on a 1.9km section of carriageway from Pimlico Road to Teven. The main works involve the demolition of the existing bridges over two Creeks and construction of new bridges for the southbound carriageway.

Menard has been contracted by Georgiou Group as specialist Ground Improvement contractor to install Controlled Modulus Column Rigid Inclusions (CMC’s) to limit the settlement of the soft ground at the two bridge abutments and in the central area between the abutments.

Our crew will install approx. 32,000 lm of CMC’s up to 24m deep in the next few months. This technique is a simple solution to complex geological environments and represent a significant refinement of the traditional displacement pile, with the outcome that it has achieved the optimisation of the rotary displacement technique.
