Perth stadium
On the Burswood Peninsula, in Perth, a stadium is under construction. The site, previously used for industrial activities and as a sewage treatment plant, a cement plant, and a waste treatment centre, will welcome, in 2018, a multi-purpose venue located at the centre of a large area intended for relaxation and leisure. Menard Oceania, in a joint venture with GFWA, Soletanche Bachy’s local subsidiary, were contracted to carry on the ground improvement of the area surrounding the stadium.
The history of the place was taken into account. Until mid-January 2015, 2,700 m2 of sheet piles were installed to avoid the transfer of pollutants in the neighboring Swan River. Between May and June, an area of over 20,000 m2 was treated by dynamic compaction, in order to collapse, in the upper layer of the backfill, the large voids created by the presence of care bodies and other obstructions. Between January and August, over 6,600 Controlled Module Columns were carried out in order to monitor the settlements of the future peripheral areas of the stadium. The solutions provided by Menard Oceania allowed the client to finish works 6 months earlier than planned.
