Accelerating Remediation at Ranger Uranium Mine with Advanced Wick Drains

Menard proudly contributed to the sustainable remediation of the Ranger Uranium Mine in Australia, a project led by Energy Resources of Australia. As part of this critical initiative, nearly 1.62 million linear meters of wick drains were installed across 44,279 locations in Pit 3. By utilizing cutting-edge ground improvement solutions, Menard accelerated the consolidation of extremely soft, fine-laden tailings submerged in contaminated water. This ensured that the site could transition into its next chapter—restoration to natural parkland.

Our innovative approach involved installing wick drains up to 45 meters deep through moonpools on a barge deck, tailored to handle challenging ground conditions. The optimized depth and spacing of the drains provided an efficient and sustainable solution, enabling significant progress on-site restoration. This highlights Menard’s commitment to engineering excellence and environmentally responsible practices in ground improvement.

As specialists in ground improvement, Menard consistently delivers results that balance efficiency, innovation, and sustainability. Whether working on remediation, infrastructure, or energy projects, our solutions are designed to meet the most complex challenges.
